DEFINING THE WORD “RACER” was Jason Leffler (top, Photo by Paul Arch). He excelled and was a champion driver in the USAC National Midget and Silver Crown cars in the 1990s, then had a successful career in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series over some ten years. He also competed at NASCAR’s highest level, the Sprint Cup Series. Sadly, Jason Leffler died from injuries in a Sprint Car crash on June 12. This week, Area Auto Racing News salutes his racing career and life; During the “Clash at the Can” at Pa.’s Penn Can Speedway last Wednesday, Modified driver Jimmy Phelps slid into a drainage pond (Photo by Jeff Karabin) during a heat race! He not only came back onto the track, but qualified in that same event and finished sixth in the feature.
