AREA AUTO RACING NEWSMAKER OF THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 16, 2016
It isn’t often that an up-and-coming driver shines in in the spotlight of a national stage.
Yet that’s exactly what 23-year old Mason Zeigler from Chalk Hill, Pa., in western Pennsylvania did when he waited until the sixth and final night of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at East Bay Raceway Park in Florida to pull off a shocking upset.
The Dirt Late Model specialist pocketed $12,000 for the win and it came after a generally frustrating week. Zeigler has had plenty of those in his Super Late Model driving career but has persevered to build his team and his confidence.
How confident did Zeigler had to be when crunch time came in Saturday night’s feature? Skilled and poised enough to run down, pass, then hold off Scott Bloomquist, arguably the best ‘Money Driver’ in all of racing.
