USAC’s Eastern Storm is a once-a-year frenzy of racing which brings the best open wheel, non-wing drivers and teams from their midwestern bases into the northeast.
This year’s Eastern Storm lived up to its advance billing in two radically different ways.
The three races that were completed were inspiring events as drivers stormed from the back to the front, challenging the cushion.
But this year’s Eastern Storm had a more literal side. Rain wiped out events intended for Lincoln Speedway and Susquehanna Speedway Park and affected turnout at Grandview and New Egypt. Only Port Royal had the placid, ‘non-stormy’ weather.
Through it all, intrepid promoters, USAC and ‘Storm’ coordinator Bob Miller persevered and the show went on.
The annual Eastern Storm always makes news. This year, news was made on multiple fronts, making the Series itself Area Auto Racing News’ Newsmaker Of The Week For June 10, 2014.
