Newsmaker of the Week // David Gravel

Williams Grove’s National Open is the biggest Sprint Car race east of Knoxville, Iowa.
To win this one is to become enshrined in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of 410 Sprint fans.
But on this night, the liver was the organ of ‘enshrinement’ for race winner David Gravel.
A controversial bump and run with race leader and fan favorite Stevie Smith sent Smith spinning, put Gravel in the lead and on to a $50,000 payday.
The PA Posse was in a frenzy. For his part, Gravel apologized while Smith stopped short of calling out Gravel.
Gravel’s mixed post-race feeling, one of tempered joy, made this Williams Grove National Open win even more of a Newsmaker than usual.
