AREA AUTO RACING NEWS NEWSMAKERS FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 21, 2015
Big winners on big stages are newsmakers by definition. It takes a special effort to win when the stakes are highest and the rewards the most generous.
This past Saturday, two drivers, one on asphalt in New England and another on dirt in the Midwest, excelled.
Todd Szegedy raced his way to victory at Loudon, N.H., driving the fabled Modified owned by Bob Garbarino. It was a last turn, last lap bid that worked.
Several hours later, Shane Stewart completed a two-day sweep of the Kings Royal in Eldora, Ohio, turning back the World Of Outlaws’ best in a car owned by NASCAR Cup driver Kyle Larson.
Winning rides by capable driver are ordinary occurrences. Szegedy and Stewart did something special. They won high profile races with style, earned the top prizes – and made news.
