AREA AUTO RACING NEWS NEWSMAKER OF THE WEEK TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD EDITION
News is usually made when big money is on the line. This time of the year, big bucks races are harder to find and sometimes turn up in unusual spots.
So it was last Saturday night at Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway’s Quarter Mile track when the first annual ‘Romp In The Swamp” was staged.
On the line was an incredible $10,000 to win, this in a race on a tiny dirt track with just fourteen starters. The race had been rescheduled from a date originally planned for earlier in the fall.
Taking the big money was Mike Iles, once a heavy hitter in weekly Big Block racing, who had curtailed his racing significantly the past two years. Iles was one the past Bridgeport five-eighths mile champions who had won is share, but nothing close to ten grand.
It was by far the richest payout for any race this past weekend in the Northeast, and the AARN newsmaking story for the week of November 3, 2015.
