IN ITS LAST DAY OF GLORY (top, Photo by Tim Moran), the historic covered grandstand at the “Moody Mile” was packed with fans for the “Finale at Syracuse” Modified classic last October; This past Saturday, the structure was imploded in view of New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, local politicians and saddened racing fans. Beginning at center left (Photo by Tia Marks), the explosive charges start to undermine the huge structure; bringing down the seats and roof (above left and center right, Photos by Alex & Helen Bruce); before it crashed to the ground (above, Marks Photo) to wipe away 100 years of racing history at the State Fairgrounds. But, racing memories of “The Mile” will always remain.
