Newsmaker of the Week // Timmy Solomito

AREA AUTO RACING NEWS NEWSMAKER FOR THE WEEK FOR TUESDAY, APRIL 12, 2016

Witnessing the unstrained joy a first time winner projects after taking the checkered flag is one of the great joys of auto racing.
Sunday at Thompson (CT) Raceway Park in the season opening NASCAR Whelen Modified Touring Series race, Timmy Solomito emerged from the pack to dominate The Icebreaker, one of the highest profile asphalt Modified races of them all.
Solomito had been filling some big shoes for the past year. Car owner Eric Sanderson, who had won races and championships with Ryan Preece and Mike Stefanik, took what many felt was a chance in hiring Solomito for 2015.
Both Sanderson and Solomito are looking pretty good right about now, Sanderson for his wisdom and savvy in picking drivers and Solomito for getting the job done.
It has been said that once someone wins a race, they can never sneak up on the field again. So while Solomito may win again, there will never be another that makes the racing world stand up and take notice. Those are newsmaking qualities.
