Newsmaker of the Week // Robert Ballou

Severe neck and back injuries sustained in a 2016 Sprint Car crash came close to taking Robert Ballou’s life, and even closer to maiming him. Ballou endured months of pain recuperating, harnessed in neck braces.

But his focus, from the time he was carried out of Calistoga (CA) Speedway, was to race again.

This past weekend, at lightning fast Eldora (OH) Speedway, Robert Ballou made his return to USAC Sprint racing. Two consecutive nights of racing were scheduled; Ballou looked unremarkable in the first race.

But on Saturday, ‘Madman’ brought down the house, winning the feature as a grandstand full of adoring fans cheered him on.

This was an incredible comeback, as good as it gets, the stuff of which legends are made. Robert Ballou’s comeback is a Newsmaker, for this week, and for weeks, if not months, to come.
