The biggest Modified race on Long Island in decades was run last Saturday night at Riverhead Raceway.
The ‘Islip 300’ was a resurrection of a storied event at the long closed Islip Speedway. This one was 300 grueling laps, with a tire compound wrinkle, and no planned stops.
The race itself was tremendous but the winner of it was an even bigger story.
Young Dillon Steuer, all of 15, won it with late race charge that brought down the house. Steuer and his father Chuck, a past Riverhead champion, earned $7,000 and were awash in glory.
