The East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals held inside the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, N.J. was a first time event for Len Sammons Motorsports Productions and the Indoor Auto Racing Series.
The idea of running an indoor race on a dirt track, as logistically daunting as it was, proved to be one of the most artistically successful races of the year.
There were no holes in the surface. There was not one molecule of dust from the track. Cars ran two, three and occasionally four abreast.
An outside pass on the final restart of the race, two laps from the end, decided the outcome.
And eight dozen drivers and teams competed.
This was some kind of event, a spectacular way to end a season, an instant classic. It was all this and more – a genuine Newsmaking event.
