Wall Stadium’s 49th running of the Turkey Derby, a three-day annual extravaganza at the New Jersey Shore Speedway, produced some spirited racing and two late race winners in Matt Hirschman and Steven Reed.
In the 150-lap Open Tour Modified race, Hirschman took advantage of late race opportunity to pit for fresh tires, knifed his way through the field and won the Tour Mod Derby for the seventh time.
The 100-lap Wall Modified race was even more spectacular. Blake Barney led Steven Reed down the backstretch after having swapped the top spot with Reed twice in the last 25 laps. Barney was in front on the last lap when Reed ducked to the bottom of the track, turned deep into the infield and passed Barney for the win.
Matt Hirschman and Steven Reed thus captured high profile wins that will carry over through the winter until racing starts anew in 2023.
And in so doing, both have made News!
