At Richmond International Raceway last Saturday afternoon, 20-year old third generation racer Austin Beers won his first ever NASCAR Whelen Modified Touring Series race. Mike Murphy, his car owner, hadn’t won a NWMT race in 12 years of trying. This was a popular win.
It was quite an emotional celebration, as Beers acknowledged his father’s selflessness in stepping away from the sport as a driver to become his mentor. He further recalled his late grandfather, Dale Beers, Sr., whose death had occurred years ago on this very day, and who got his family involved in a sport they cherish to this day.
Austin had been fast since joining Murphy’s team, became consistent, and all the while moved up in the finishing order during his rookie season last year. Now, he’s a proven winner in a tough league.
For taking down the biggest win in his career on one of the sport’s biggest stages, Austin Beers is a Newsmaker!
