The idea of putting full-fledged Dirt Modifieds on the fifth-mile Kutztown Action Track was a much anticipated event. Many drivers and many more spectators wondered what they might expect, and much of the supposition wasn’t at all flattering.
How wrong the naysayers were!
Mike Gular free-wheeled his way to the Short Track Super Series race win in the 50-lap main event, the last 41 laps of which ran off non-stop. The action was frenetic; race winner Gular described the racing as “intense”. Fans left Kutztown talking to themselves – and each other – about what they had just seen. It was a bold move that paid off, and the word “encore” was oft spoken.
For imagining, promoting, executing, and most of all, daring to be different, Kutztown’s Doug Rose and Rich Tobias put on a show that will be long remembered as a Newsmaker!
