Newsmaker of the Week // Danny Varin

The 410 Sprint drivers of PA Posse are legendary for their ability to beat up on invaders from traveling Sprint Car groups. This past Saturday, the excitement of a hometowner beating the outsiders played out in Central New York when the All Star Sprint Series teams came to play on the Utica-Rome Speedway clay – and walked off empty handed.

The man of the hour was Danny Varin, second generation racer riding out of Sharon Springs, NY, whose career decision three years ago to concentrate on Winged Sprint Car racing has had its ups and downs.

On this night, Varin time trialed well, made the Dash, won that and started up front in the feature. And he led all 30 laps, holding off Tyler Courtney and Zeb Wise, the top two ranked All Stars.

It was spectacular. The crowd was enthralled. Varin called it “the biggest win of my career – by far”. Precious moments were these, framing a night to remember – a night of Newsmaking!
