Last Saturday’s Fonda 200 had a little bit of everything. There was an ungodly 13-car crash halfway through the race that delayed the show for an hour while cars were towed off and drivers were tended to.
Those thrills over, that’s when the race heated up between two Dirt Modified heavyweights, Stewart Friesen and Matt Sheppard.
At stake? A $53,000 winner’s share of the purse, plus other cash and contingency bonuses.
The pair of talents put on a driving clinic with Friesen prevailing in a thriller. His $53,000 base purse ended up exceeding $57,000 with extra awards. Compared to some of his mega years of the recent past, Stewart Friesen’s 2023 win record had not been up to par. But Saturday night at Fonda, when the stakes were high, Stewy got the job done.
In the process, Stewart Friesen was, once again, a winner – and a Newsmaker!
