Mat Williamson has won his share of races in the last few years and knows that sometimes you’re good, and sometimes you’re lucky. In Sunday afternoon’s 62nd running of the Eastern States 200 at NY’s Orange County Fair Speedway, Williamson was both good and lucky.
Williamson was good in that he managed his tires and his fuel consumption while, at the same time, keeping the race leaders in sight. Williamson was lucky when rival Matt Sheppard ran out of fuel, twice, and when rival Tyler Dippel, laps away from what would have been a shocking upset win, blew up. Then he was good again, holding off Stewart Friesen’s desperate attempts to steal the win over the final two laps.
Mat Williamson avoided the drama that swept up others and raced to victory to win one of Dirt Modified racing’s crown jewel events.
That’s a Newsmaker!
