Newsmaker of the Week // Matt Sheppard

After winning three of four Short Track Super Series Dirt Modified races the week before at All-Tech Raceway, Matt Sheppard headed for Volusia Park Speedway Park with a rare opportunity: the next time he won a feature, it would be the 500th of his driving career.

 And that’s exactly what Sheppard did, winning the Wednesday night Super DIRT Series race. To accent the achievement, he won number 501 the very next night. Sheppard was nonchalant about it all, preferring, he said, to concentrate on his next race win, not the last one. Nevertheless, Matt Sheppard’s 500th career victory puts him in a place few have ever traveled in racing. And since he’s in the prime of his career, there’s no telling how higher his win total may climb.
