Garrett Alberson had been suiting up for Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series races for nearly five years. He took his licks, learned the ropes, improved weekly. This year, Alberson seemed poised for a breakthrough. And break through he did Friday night at Port Royal Speedway when he raced from third to first on the final lap, taking the lead in the final 100 yards to win big.

Alberson told writers post-race that he never had given a thought to giving up his quest for victory, though admittedly he’d been discouraged at times. By breaking down the door to Victory Lane in the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series, Garrett Alberson is a winner for the first time – and a Newsmaker!
