Newsmaker of the Week // Rico Abreu

Though flat-out is Rico Abreu’s typical way of winning 410 Sprint races, his victory in Port Royal Speedway’s prestigious and rich Tuscarora 50 Saturday night was achieved as much by tire conservation on what was a difficult race track. Abreu held back when the track rubbered up, and took the checkered flag with a bald right rear tire – but one that held its air.

Abreu is arguably the most popular 410 Sprint driver in the country, due in part because he is a man of the people. He was one of the only racers last week to haul the 2,700 miles from the West Coast to Central Pennsylvania on his own, stopping only for fuel.

When Rico wins, the grandstands erupt as they did Saturday night at Port Royal. He is the very definition of a Newsmaker!
