Even with Stewart Friesen’s penchant for making headlines, what happened with his racing efforts for four days last weekend is amazing.
On Thursday night, he won the Hard Clay Finale, the last race of the 2024 Short Track Super Series North Season at Orange County Fair Speedway. From there, he flew to Homestead-Miami Speedway where he raced on Saturday afternoon in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and finished sixth. Then, it was back to Orange County Sunday for the Eastern States Big Block Modified 200, a race he had won three times before – but, having not qualified earlier, would race need to race his way in to – or rely on a past winners provisional to get into the race. He succeeded, with a provisional – and started 40th and last in the 200.
There he began a relentless charge to the front, was in the top five, then had a flat tire. He pitted, restarted in the rear of the field, didn’t pit at mid-distance when most all others did, regained track position – and walked off with the win.
It was an amazing set of results, a week only a Newsmaker could generate!
