Eighteen year old Knoxville Nationals rookie Ryan Timms scored one of the greatest upsets in Sprint Car history by winning Saturday night’s Knoxville Nationals. His team’s take for the week? $219,000!
How did Timms do it? He got a good head start when the decision was made for him to race at Knoxville weekly this year, thus gaining a working knowledge of varying track conditions and setups. In the end, though, it was Timms who got the job done, by being fast, staying out in front of his competitors, hitting his marks, and rolling to a shocking, dominating victory.
Upsets like this don’t happen often and are even more rare when misfortunes to others take them out of contention. That wasn’t the case Saturday night in Knoxville.
