Newsmaker of the Week // Michael Barnes

The 69th running of Oswego Speedway’s Supermodified Classic on Labor Day Sunday was a race that required speed, fuel management, and a little luck to win.

Michael Barnes managed his fuel more effectively than several of his faster competitor and that was the difference in this year’s Oswego Classic. Barnes had won Supermodified racing’s most prestigious race once before – and had lost it before, twice, by running out of fuel while leading late. There was no such drama for Barnes Sunday afternoon, who earned $24,000 for the win and a lifetime of prestige and respect.

For winning one of racing’s most challenging long-distance events, a race in which every lap counts, Michael Barnes is a Newsmaker!
