Over its event history, Long Island’s Riverhead Raceway’s Islip 300 for Tour Modifieds has had its share of different winners, eight in the nine year run of the race to be precise.
This year’s surprise victor was Joey Braun, an accomplished Legends driver but unheralded Modified racer up until two months ago. In August, in his first start for car owner Rich Gerbe, Braun won. Then, in a dramatic twist, Braun got behind the wheel of Gerbe’s Modified for the Islip 300 for a second time last week – and won again.
Braun was in the right place at the right time on several different occasions during this race and when it counted most, he had what it took to earn the $12,000 victory.
For emerging from obscurity to win Long Island’s most prestigious Stock Car race in his first attempt, Joey Braun is a Newsmaker!
