It’s always special when local drivers are able to defend home turf against invaders. Long Island’s Riverhead Raceway was the site of one of those moments last Saturday when Mark Stewart, making just his ninth career NASCAR Modified Tour start, pulled off the upset by leading the most laps in the 200 lap affair.
However, it wasn’t a cakewalk to victory lane by any means. He had to pass four-time series champion Justin Bonsignore twice and then hold his nerve like a 20-year tour veteran while negotiating slower traffic.
Any time you stick it to the big dogs, you make news. But doing it in front of family and friends makes it even more special, which is why Mark Stewart is a Newsmaker!
