Virginia Driver Trever Feathers Red Hot With Five Late Model Wins In 13 Starts

Trever Feathers drove a Rocket Chassis for the first time last year when he filled in for the injured Tyler Emory in the Cameron-Mann No. 72, and was so comfortable in the machine that he began using them in his own program.
Fast forward to this season and it turns out the Winchester, VA driver made the right call as in 13 starts, Feathers already has five victories, which matches his total from all of last year, and has only finished outside the top ten one time.
“The Rocket just fits the way I drive, but it honestly makes me look a lot better than I am at times,” Feathers said after winning the Appalachian Late Model Speedweek opener at Clinton County Speedway last Friday night. “I got to run the No. 72 stuff last year and fell in love with Rocket.
“Then a few of my supporters wanted me in a Rocket so we picked one up from Tim Logan. It’s been unreal that we’ve had this much success and it’s only the beginning of June. Hopefully we can keep this up through the rest of the season because that’s what real race teams do and we’re trying to be one.”
Despite being a force in the regional Late Model scene, the Clinton County win was Feathers’ first of his career during Speedweek. He was glad to get the upper hand on Gregg Satterlee as Feathers said in four instances where he was knocking on the door of a win, Satterlee passed him late in three of them.
“Three of them were by Satterlee and the other was by (Rick) Eckert in 2017,” he said. “So, it’s pretty awesome to be able to get one of those back from Gregg. It means a lot anytime you can race with guys of his caliber. We’ve been keeping him honest and he’s been keeping us honest. I beat him at Bedford the week before and then he curb stomped us at Selinsgrove the next day, so it’s been a lot of fun going back and forth.”
One thing that worked to Feathers’ benefit throughout the 40-lap feature was the way the cautions fell. He never had to knife his way through thick slower traffic around the narrow 1/3-mile facility. At the same time though, he wouldn’t’ve minded putting cars in between he and those behind.
“My car was maneuverable enough that I wanted to be able to pick my way through traffic,” he said. “The No. 18 (Matt Cochran) cleared me on the one restart, but never moved up to take my line. So, I figured he was softer on tires or something that made him stick to the bottom.
“I wanted to get through the back of the field because they were all running the bottom. I always feel a little more comfortable in traffic, especially when the track gets racy like that because you don’t know where the guy behind you is running. I definitely wanted to be any traffic.”
Unlike last year, Feathers is not expected to contest all the Speedweek shows.
“I was able to do it with the No. 72 because they were taking care of everything and I was just meeting them at the track,” he said. “This year, we’re taking care of everything. The guys and I have 40-hour a week jobs and we’re working on the cars in the evenings.
“The plan is to run Port Royal (later rained out) and come back next weekend. We may go to down to Potomac (Sunday), but its two and a half hours from us so getting home at 2 or 3 in the morning on Monday would be rough on everybody.”
