Newsmaker of the Week // King Anthony XLII

Anthony Macri was scratching his head most of the Kings Royal weekend at OH’s Eldora Speedway as his No. 39M machine had nowhere near the pace it had when he was crowned King Anthony XLII last year.

However, Macri didn’t quit one bit as when he found himself starting on the front row of a heat race that would give him the pole in the 40-lap, $200,000-to-win feature, Macri rose to the occasion. After dropping back to third early on in the main event, Macri remained cool as a cucumber, eventually surging his way back forward on the bottom and past Garet Williamson with three laps to go to sit on a throne for a second consecutive year.

In doing so, Macri joined Donny Schatz as being the only drivers to ever win the Kings Royal in back-to-back seasons. Anthony Macri has made news multiple times in his career and will continue to do so as long as he’s driving a Sprint Car. But this time around, he’s not just any kind of newsmaker, he’s a historical newsmaker!
