 When a racer becomes known by his initials, that’s a sign that he’s a true competitor.

 CVD – Craig VonDohren – is just such a driver.

 This past Saturday, VonDohren dominated Grandview (PA) Speedway’s annual Freedom 76, a Small Block Modified race offering a lifetime of prestige and $25,000 in cash to its winner.

 At age 52, VonDohren is used to winning. In fact, he had won this race five times before.

 The newsmaking aspect of this win is twofold. First, he held off a slew of rivals, mixing it up aggressively at times. And second, his win this night gave him the ‘Grandview Trifecta –  a season sweep of the Forrest Rogers Memorial, the track championship and now this.

 CVD has made news before in his ‘thirty-something’ years behind the wheel.

 Last Saturday, he did it again.
