Call at the shot heard ‘round the racing world.
The shot was from behind, delivered by a wholly unapologetic Doug Coby to the back bumper of Ryan Preece at Loudon, N.H. Saturday. It sent Preece spinning and Coby to Victory Lane.
The sounds ‘round the racing world were temporarily muffled by NASCAR, which said, in effect, despite harm, no foul. Harm as in having half a dozen other drivers pile into wreckage that had been splayed across the track.
With one move, Coby brought into question the values that govern today’s racing and the quality of those who make and enforce rules.
That’a a lot of weight attached to a spinout that cast Doug Coby in the glare of the Newsmaker spotlight.
