It’s unusual for a race car driver to win a big race in their first start of the season.
Yet that’s what happened twice this past weekend.
At Lincoln Speedway, Rico Abreu, making his first World Of Outlaws 410 Sprint start of 2023, swept to victory before a packed grandstand of cheering fans.
Sixty miles to the north on the same brisk Saturday, Michael Maresca, making his first start in six months, won the Short Track Super Series feature in the Series opener at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Both racers beat talent-ladenfields, lit up the crowds, and left the tracks feeling emboldened and enthused about the year ahead.
Getting a big win early in the season is a big deal. Taking down the checkered in your first start of the year in that type of car is, for Abreu and Maresca more than a victory – it’s a Newsmaker!
